{ZzS} #60: Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility | | Jane Austen | | Word Cloud Classics | | Roman | | 4/5 Anker

»[...] I could not be happy with a man whose taste did not in every point coincide with my own. He must enter into all my feelings;  the same books, the same music must charm us both. [...]« (S. 13)

»My protege, as you call him, is a sensible man; and sense will always have attractions for me. Yes Marianne, even in a man between thirty and forty. He has seen a great deal of the world; has been abroad, has read, and has a thinking mind. I have found him capable of giving me much information on various subjects; and he has always answered my inquiries with readiness of good-breeding and good nature.« (S. 39/40)

»and yet there is something so amiable in the prejudices of a young mind, that one is sorry to see them give away to the reception of more general opinions.« (S. 43)

»[...] It is not time or opportunity that is to determine intimacy - it is disposition alone.Seven years would be insufficient to make some people acquaintaned with each other, and seven days are more than enough for others. [...]« (S. 45)

»[...] I wish as well as every body else to be perfectly happy; but, like everybody else it must be on my way. [...]« (S. 70)

»money can only give happiness where there is nothing else to give it. Beyond a competence, it can afford no real satisfaction, as far as mere self is concerned.« (S. 71)

»She knows her own worth too well for false shame«, replied Edward. »Shyness is only the effect of a sense of inferiority in some way or other. [...]« (S. 73)

»[...] And after all, Marianne, after all that is bewitching in the idea of a single and constant attachment, and all that can be said of one's happiness depending entirely on any particular person, it is not meant -it is not fit- it is not possible that it should be so. [...]« (S. 200)

Jahrhundert leben?

3 Landgänge

  1. Huhu Mary, wow so viele Fragen!

      LG, Mary <3
